I’m eagerly anticipating sharing the results of the Chud Bubble Hash. Unfortunately, I lost most of my garden photos when my laptop crashed, and the backup I thought I had didn’t exist. I’ll be using the photos available on my Instagram page, LoyaltyGardens (formally lasvegasty/loyaltyorganics). I’ve also included necessary updates throughout. This is not how I had envisioned this to be, but I’m rolling with what I got.
CHUD bred by Chad Westport which is (Westport’s Grape Juice x Afghani no1). She was grown outdoors in Las Vegas without any shade cloth or protection. The cuts were planted on the morning of the summer solstice in 2023. During that week, temperatures ranged from a low of 68°F to a high of 98°F, and soon it soared to over 115°F. (7/4/23) source
It took her a few days to adjust, facing some pest pressure, so I applied evening IPM foliar sprays throughout that week. Temperatures ranged from lows in the high 70s to highs of 113°F, and it was very dry. The forecast called for 117°F. I had some issues with the photos for this update, accidentally deleting some from that week. The photo shown is one week after transplant.(7/14/23) source
She’s experiencing some heat stress with temperatures ranging from lows in the 90s to highs of 117°F, and very dry conditions with humidity averaging 14% and dropping as low as 5%. Only water was used, and the upcoming forecast calls for 112°F. (7/28/23) source
The heat has taken a toll on some of the leaves, and there’s been occasional pest pressure. Part of this test involves providing only water, making early morning watering essential. With no shade cloth, temperatures have ranged from lows in the upper 90s to highs of 113°F, and humidity has fluctuated between 5% and 34% when we had some rain, thunder, and lightning. The forecast calls for more thunderstorms, and hopefully, some much-needed rain. (8/4/23) source
We caught the eastern edge of Tropical Storm Hillary, and the video shows the tail end of that storm. The photos are from the following day. I haven’t had to water at all this week, which has been a relief. Still using only hose water since planting, with no shade cloth or foliar sprays. The plant has truly been put to the test.
She’s survived a couple of floods, temperatures exceeding 117°F, winds exceeding 70 mph, hail, multiple storms, and was never under shade cloth. Placed in the corner of the bed next to one of the largest plants, she was mostly neglected except at watering time. I may have added worm castings once, but that’s the extent of care provided. Harvest photos were lost with all my past garden photos/videos when laptop crashed
POSTED 1-29-24 Never had to do 7 washes before with same material. This is the outdoor CHUD, and she had a quarter dry before going into the freezer to be washed. Started off with 222g of material that was quarter dried (about 3 to 3 1/2 days) then put into the freezer.
Wash 1/2 – 5min
Wash 3/4 – 6min
Wash 5/6 – 8min
Wash 7 – 10min
📸 1 before going into the freeze dryer. Top is first run down to last. Other 📸 are after the freeze dryer
After the freeze dried, the ending number came out to 39.4g leaving us with a 12.25% return (45-159). 12.70% if you are including the 25 micron
I just collected the 45-159 on each wash. I collected the 25 at the very end, but it wasn’t much at all. Everything was in between the 45-159
Shoutout to @olhippiemedibles … came with the freeze dryer 💪 clutch. I handed off the material for him to do the freeze dryer part and to run those numbers after the dry.
Shoutout @mr.rosins.neighborhood @pedros.grow.room @buildasoil I still watch the infamous video a few times a year and always pick something new up.
Notes of interest: All the outdoor plants had very high returns. This may be due to the flood they survived, and then 2 gnarly storms, one with hurricane type winds, definitely put her under stress. Grown outdoors in Vegas, no shade cloth or protection at all.
There is a pattie missing, though… @staccstyles Happy Birthday
